Introduction - Betta Wajok
Decided to start a blog to document my Betta fish. The ones I keep are not the regular Bettas you would get from stores though, I keep wild ones mostly Betta Imbellis and ones from the Coccina complex. Recently I have started to develop a affinity for Bettas in the Coccina complex, most of the Bettas from this complex are red with the exception of Betta Hendra, Betta Persephone and Betta Miniopinna. To start off this blog I have Betta Wajok, this species is one of the undescribed species. They could just be Rutilans but are named Wajok due to being found in Wajok, Indonesia.
Best picture that I can get of the new guy for now. He resides in a 2.5 gallon tank with a female which is not pictured. Hopefully once he is settled he will become a deep red which will look very nice.
These fish have very certain requirements, they come from bodies of water that are very acidic and dark due to all the decaying organic material, they require an PH of 3.0 - 6.0 and also prefer softer water with an TDS of 15-100. The tank they are kept in has a PH of 5.8-6.0 and a TDS of about 28-30.
Have to use RO (Reverse Osmosis) water for these guys as my tap water is very hard and alkaline, thankfully they are super small and don't need a big tank.
